Mission Statement:
Christian Care and Share of Southern Clay County seeks to be the beacon of hope for those in our community during the hour of their need. We do this through the services we offer through the Food Pantry, the Nu Tu Yu Store, and our Financial Lifeline.
This organization had its beginning because of the interest of the Clay City Ministerial Association in the year of 1983. The concern in the beginning was to provide food for people who were experiencing a crisis in food needs. The organization was originally named The Bread Basket Food Pantry. In 1986, they expanded to include other needs beyond food. We used to provide dental services and eyeglasses for school children, but as time went on the school nurse said she could take care of these needs. Later, the organization developed a clothing store and was named Nu Tu Yu Shop. In 1987, the name changed to Christian Care and Share Services of Southern Clay County. We are a nonprofit, charitable, Christian organization which represents a broad base of participation by churches, community organizations, and many other individuals. All of the workers at the food pantry and the Nu Tu Yu Shop are volunteers. Our board of directors are made up of members from area churches and our board meets quarterly at the Clay City First UMC Fellowship Hall.
